WASHINGTON – After joining President Trump in the Rose Garden for the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement announcement (USMCA) yesterday, Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) joined CBS This Morning to discuss the trade deal. A highlight of the conversation is below.
NORAH O’DONNELL: President Trump thanked you by name in his remarks yesterday specifically, saying that the deal with Mexico and Canada was welcome news for Iowa farmers and ranchers. Explain for us how this will help farmers in Iowa.
SEN. ERNST: Absolutely. This is a great opportunity. And I want to thank the President and our United States Trade Rep Bob Lighthizer for working so hard on this deal to bring Canada and Mexico together with us. But this does expand opportunity for our dairy farmers; for eggs and poultry going into Canada. And it levels the playing field for wheat, as well. We are very excited about the opportunity to get our commodities out into Canada and Mexico and continue on with that great relationship.
