(KMAland) -- Program management legislation introduced by Iowa Senator Joni Ernst and North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp heads to the Senate.
On Wednesday, the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee unanimously passed the Program Management Improvement Accountability Act. Ernst says the legislation is a positive for taxpayers.
"This legislation would help eliminate wasting resources and would protect and safeguard taxpayer dollars."
Ernst adds the legislation holds the federal government accountable to adopt the program management standards, practices and procedures of high-performing, private sector organizations.
"It would outline strategies to correct widespread deficiencies, lax oversight and unnecessary cost incurred by preventable delays in meeting stated program goals and deadlines."
The legislation now awaits further action in the Senate. Ernst made her comments in a telephone conference with reporters Wednesday afternoon.
