As Democrats Reject Bipartisan Approach on COVID Relief, Ernst Calls for Democrats, Republicans to Work Together

WASHINGTON — More than five hours ago, the Senate began consideration of the Democrats’ nearly $2 trillion “COVID relief” package—during what is known as a “Vote-a-Rama.” Senate Republicans were working in a bipartisan way with Democrats, including Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.V.), to improve the bill, including the expanded unemployment benefits provision.

 

President Biden and the Democratic leadership appear to be stalling the effort, rejecting the bipartisan work.

 

U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) called on her colleagues to work together in a bipartisan manner—like Congress has done in the previous five COVID-19 relief bills. Ernst noted that—despite the challenges of the pandemic—Iowa’s economy is recovering and Iowa’s businesses are struggling to find workers.
