WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), a survivor and a strong leader on the issue of combating sexual and domestic violence, joined Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), and Patrick Leahy (D-VT) to introduce a resolution in support of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
“As a survivor and someone who worked at a victim help center in college—counseling women through some of the most difficult moments of their lives—today, I’m pleased to join with my Democratic colleague and partner on addressing this issue, Senator Feinstein, in recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month,” said Senator Joni Ernst. “Domestic violence deserves a comprehensive effort to address it, and I remain committed to doing everything I can to combat it and to support those who are on the frontlines in helping survivors.”
“We should never be silent about the dangers of domestic violence,” Senator Feinstein said. “Nearly 12 million individuals are victims of domestic violence in the United States each year. During National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, let’s break the cycle of violence by encouraging more survivors to speak out and making sure their abusers are held accountable.”
