Ernst Commends USDA for Providing Additional Pandemic Relief for Farmers

The new round of relief includes Iowa’s turkey farmers which Ernst has been pushing for

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) praised the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s announcement to provide a second round of Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) relief to farmers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, including Iowa turkey producers. Ernst, along with Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, called on the USDA in June to provide assistance through CFAP to turkey producers across the state.

“Farmers throughout Iowa’s entire agriculture community have been hit hard by COVID-19. This additional support will help our producers as they continue to navigate the challenges created by the pandemic,” said Senator Joni Ernst, member of the Senate Agriculture Committee. “I especially applaud the USDA for heeding my calls to include Iowa’s turkey farmers in this new round of relief.”

In addition to turkey, commodities eligible for CFAP relief include livestock, row crops, dairy, broilers, eggs, and more. For more information and to apply, visit the USDA website
