Ernst: Defense Bill Delivers Well-Deserved Pay Raise, Improved Benefits for Servicemembers with Traumatic Brain Injuries, PTSD

The Iowa senator also helped to end Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for our troops.

WASHINGTON – As the president signed the FY2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) into law today, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a combat veteran and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, celebrated her successful efforts to support our servicemembers.

“Our national security would not be possible without our brave men and women in uniform, which is why I pushed for a well-deserved pay raise and a number of improved benefits for servicemembers, including those suffering from a traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress disorder,” said Ernst. “I am also proud that, at my urging and that of my Republican colleagues, we successfully terminated Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate – the right move to improve our military readiness.”

The following Ernst-supported initiatives for our servicemembers were included in this year’s NDAA:

  • Standardizing how the military diagnoses traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) across all military services.
  • Ending the Department of Defense’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate due to readiness and end strength concerns.
  • Increasing servicemember pay.

Listen to Ernst discuss all her measures included this year’s NDAA here.
