Ernst Demands Biden-Harris End Waffling on “Ironclad” Commitment to Israel

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and her colleagues called out the Biden-Harris administration for withholding a wide array of congressionally-approved weapons and supplies from Israel. The senators urged the White House to end its appeasement of Iran, stop jeopardizing the lives of American servicemembers, and deliver the necessary weapons systems to our strongest ally in the Middle East.

While she was in Israel in May 2024, Ernst received reports that the United States withheld an ammunition shipment to Israel and immediately demanded answers from the Biden-Harris White House. After the administration doubled down on its decision to revoke ammo from Israel, Ernst ripped the president for talking out of both sides of his mouth and reiterated the need to hold Biden and Harris accountable.

“When Prime Minister Netanyahu publicly raised the weapons hold in June, your administration adamantly denied the accusation. You ignored Congressional inquiries, including a May 6, 2024, letter from Senator Marshall, a May 6, 2024, letter from Senator Ernst, a May 14, 2024, letter from Senator Risch and a June 20, 2024, letter from Senator Cotton. All the while, you were deliberately delaying the delivery of weapons, ammunition, and equipment to Israel. These include 120 mm tank ammunition, 120mm mortar ammunition, light tactical vehicles, air to air missiles, F-15s, F-35 engines, joint direct attack munition kits, 2,000 pound bombs, rifles, and guided missile systems,” wrote the senators.

Background:

Ernst has worked tirelessly to hold President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris accountable to their “ironclad” commitment to Israel, especially while Americans are held hostage by Iran-backed Hamas.

Ahead of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s address to Congress, Ernst led a dozen Senate Republicans in calling Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to action on behalf of our hostages while they snubbed Israel and waffled on their “ironclad” commitment.
