It’s like a bad sequel. Same plot. Same cast of characters. But a bigger budget!
WASHINGTON – The shady organization that funneled U.S. tax dollars into China’s state-run Wuhan Institute of Virology to conduct risky research on coronaviruses collected from bats is once again being paid by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to experiment on bats, and U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) is going to bat for taxpayers to stop the batty studies!
NIH canceled a grant to EcoHealth Alliance in August after repeated refusals by the group to divulge information about what was really going on in Wuhan—information which could provide clues to the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. But last month, NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, headed by Dr. Anthony Fauci, awarded the group a new five year grant that could total millions of dollars to conduct more studies on how coronaviruses from bats could infect humans.
Ernst has introduced a new bill that will ensure EcoHealth doesn’t receive another penny of taxpayer money ever again.
In an exclusive on Ernst’s new effort, Daily Caller reported on the senator’s continued demands for answers, pointing out a history of silence on the issue: “Republican lawmakers have grilled former National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Francis Collins and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci for not responding to their inquiries regarding a 2014 grant awarded by the NIH to EcoHealth Alliance, Inc. (EcoHealth) that was then awarded to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”

Fox News highlighted the senator’s comments on NIH continuing to award grants to EcoHealth: “Giving taxpayer money to EcoHealth to study pandemic prevention is like paying a suspected arsonist to conduct fire safety inspections. NIH got it right when it canceled the funding for the experiments EcoHealth Alliance was conducting with China’s state-run Wuhan Institute. In addition to violating multiple federal laws, EcoHealth has still not turned over documents about these dangerous studies that NIH has requested on multiple occasions that could offer vital clues to the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

In a report on the cash-flow of federal funds granted to EcoHealth between 2014 and 2019, the New York Post noted the senator’s response: “It is absolutely batty that NIH would give another cent of taxpayer money to EcoHealth when the group has failed to respond to repeated NIH requests about … turning over information about the dangerous experiments it was conducting in China’s state-run Wuhan Institute.”

The Daily Mail reported on Ernst’s reaction to a report that EcoHealth has received millions of taxpayer dollars: “'NIH got it right when it canceled the funding for the experiments EcoHealth Alliance was conducting with China's state-run Wuhan Institute,' Ernst said.”
