Ernst Helps Deliver for Iowa, Army Ammunition Plant Awarded Contract
As a result of Ernst-supported military legislation, the plant will receive a long-term investment by the US Army which will benefit Iowa workers.
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), a combat veteran and chairman of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities, proudly supported the
Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which included investments of over $100 million in support of army ammunition development. Ultimately, the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown was chosen by the U.S. Army as a contract recipient.

This will not only create and sustain jobs, but help ensure the long-term future of the Iowa Army Ammo Plant. Congratulations to American Ordnance and their employees,”

Background:
American Ordnance, in Middletown, was awarded
$76 million for high-explosive artillery production and a
$20 million contract for improved long-range artillery production line at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. American Ordinance was also
awarded $8.7 million to design and build a wastewater treatment facility at the plant in Middletown.
This will benefit the more than 800 Iowa workers at the Iowa Army Ammo Plant and will stimulate the local economy by providing continued investment in the plant.
