Ernst Joins White House Working Families Summit with Ivanka Trump

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), a mother and leader on the issue of paid parental leave, joined Ivanka Trump, senior advisor to the President, Dr. Laurie Todd-Smith, Director of the Women’s Bureau at the U.S. Department of Labor (DoL), and her colleagues at the White House today for a working families summit.

“Affording all moms and dads the flexibility to spend time with their newborn or adopted baby is something Iowans, and Americans want to see happen,” said Senator Ernst. “It’s past time we modernize our family leave policies to reflect the evolving needs of today’s workforce and reduce the barriers that pose challenges for parents balancing family and work. I’m grateful for Ivanka Trump’s leadership to find a pathway forward on this critical issue, and I remain committed to working alongside my colleagues and the administration to provide commonsense paid leave solutions for families across Iowa.”

In March, Senator Ernst and Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) put forward a paid parental leave plan that is budget neutral and flexible for parents who choose to opt in.
