Ernst Names Small Business of the Week, Brown’s Shoe Fit Co.

Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

RED OAK, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: Brown’s Shoe Fit Co. of Henry County. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

“Brown’s Shoe Fit Co. puts its best foot forward in catering to every client’s lifestyle,” said Ranking Member Ernst. “A Mt. Pleasant community staple since 1952, the company has ensured everyone finds the perfect fit. While there are many options to buy shoes, this family-run operation is clearly a step-up.”

Since opening in 1952, Brown’s Shoe Fit Co. has been a cornerstone of the Mt. Pleasant community, operating continuously from the same shopping center. In 2000, Kurt Moon expanded the store to offer a broad range of shoe sizes and styles. The full-service shoe shop specifically trains its staff to fit individuals with different sizes and styles. After managing the store for over 30 years, Kurt passed the leadership to his daughter, Tara Mullin, who became a managing partner in 2020. The company was recognized as a Mt. Pleasant Small Business of the Year Finalist in 2018 and 2023 and has been voted Mt. Pleasant’s favorite shoe shop numerous times. This year, Brown’s Shoe Fit Co. is celebrating its 72nd business anniversary, reflecting its strong commitment to high-quality service and local engagement.

Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
