Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.
RED OAK, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: Family Foods of Cedar County. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.
“For 59 years and three generations, the Goetz family and the entire team at Family Foods has been dedicated to providing Cedar County with fresh groceries and a convenient shopping experience,” said Ranking Member Ernst. “Their service with a smile and the many ways they give back make Family Foods a staple of the Tipton community.”
Don Goetz got his start in the grocery business when he was just 14 years old as an employee at Benner Tea Company. In 1964, he bought the Benner Tea Company grocery store to start his own company, which he would eventually name Family Foods. The store moved to its current location in 1985 and has been providing Iowans living in Tipton and the surrounding communities with quality groceries ever since. Operating Family Foods has truly been a family affair — three generations of the Goetz family have worked at the store, and Don’s son Mike now co-owns the business with his son Brad. Family Foods is also very involved in the local community, contributing to the rotary club and school programs as well as being nationally recognized for their service.
Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
