Ernst Names Small Business of the Week, Great Day Cafe

Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

RED OAK, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: Great Day Cafe of Van Buren County. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

“A truly great day starts at the Great Day Cafe where you can find everything from specialty coffee and scratch fudge to homemade biscuits and gravy,” said Ranking Member Ernst. “Located on Main Street in Keosauqua since 2015, this spot has built a reputation as a community hub where anyone can walk through the door and enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch handmade by Jennie and her team. I’m excited to see the cafe serve as a special spot for Iowans.”

In 2015, Jennie Lee opened Great Day Cafe, a community breakfast and lunch spot that also features a full-service coffee bar. Jennie and her team work to provide Keosauqua with fresh pies, scratch fudge, and homemade biscuits and gravy. They also collaborate with the community to provide meals for schools, churches, and local events. Each month, the cafe hosts the Veterans Affairs Office breakfast to connect local veterans. In 2023, Keokuk Radio recognized Great Day Cafe as the best breakfast in Henry, Jefferson, and Van Buren County.

Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
