Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.
RED OAK, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: L.R. Falk Construction Co. of Mitchell County. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.
“For over 100 years, L.R. Falk Construction has provided the materials for the infrastructure we live, work, and play on,” said Ranking Member Ernst. “What started as a hauling business with just a Ford Model T and a shovel has expanded to operate out of multiple quarries and sand pits in our state. With their third generation of leadership at the helm, I’m excited to see how this remarkable family-owned and operated business will keep serving Iowans and beyond.”
LaVerne Falk founded L.R. Falk Construction Co. in 1922. The company began as a hauling business, gradually expanding from vegetables out of the back of a Ford Model T to a multipurpose company operating from its first quarry by the 1930s. Under the leadership of LaVerne’s son, David Falk, and grandson, Lindsey Falk, the company grew to employ over 60 full-time employees, operating from nine quarries and three sand pits. L.R. Falk Construction Co. plays an active role in the St. Ansgar community through initiatives such as the Quarry 5K Run and the establishment of the Rock Foundation. Each generation of owners has served as president of the Iowa Limestone Association and earned several awards for their contributions to St. Ansgar and the state of Iowa.
Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
