Ernst Names Small Business of the Week, Mustard Seed Company

Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

RED OAK, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: Mustard Seed Company of Monroe County. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

“Sarah Hopkins has grown her quality home decor, furnishings, and gifts store idea over the last six years into two thriving small businesses,” Ernst said. “Since she launched Mustard Seed Company on the Main Street of Albia, she has branched out to continue exceptional service by creating The Seedling. As she has continued her work alongside her family and employees, as well as remaining a key community leader in growing the Albia economy, her business has blossomed. I want to congratulate Sarah Hopkins for her dedication, and I look forward to her continued success.”

In 2017, Sarah Hopkins and her husband Curt transformed a former car dealership located on Albia’s Main Street into Mustard Seed Company, a home decor, furnishings, and gift store. In 2021, Sarah opened The Seedling, a women's and children’s boutique, two doors down from Mustard Seed Company. In addition to running the boutique and home decor store, Sarah is actively involved in the Albia community. She is a member of the Albia Chamber Main Street’s Promotions Committee and the Albia Chamber Main Street awarded her and her husband the 2022 Excellence in Design and Placemaking.

Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
