Throughout this Congress, Chair Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.
RED OAK, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Chair of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: Original Saw Company of Hancock County. Throughout the 119th Congress, Chair Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.
“A testament to American manufacturing, the Original Saw Company has been dedicated to making radial arm saws and crafting reliable parts for over three decades,” said Chair Ernst. “This family-owned and operated business continues to push the limits by doubling its production facility and adding a molding machine company to its portfolio, continuing excellent services across the Midwest.”
In 1990, Robert and Laurie Eden founded the Original Saw Company after buying Jones Machinery and Lancaster Machinery. The couple moved Jones Machinery from Des Moines to Britt, Iowa in 1989 and obtained the rights to continue manufacturing radial arm saws through the purchase of Lancaster Machinery. In the fall of 1990, the Edens rebranded to the Original Saw Company.
In 1993, Robert’s son, Allen Eden, graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and joined the company full-time, running it with his dad until fully taking over in 2002. Today, the company has expanded to 21 employees and is the sole American manufacturer of radial arm saws. The company also offers tools such as saw measuring systems, extension tables, and miter saw stands. This September, Original Saw Company will celebrate its 35th anniversary in Britt, Iowa.
Stay tuned as Chair Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
