Ernst Names Small Business of the Week, Sully Locker & Market

Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

RED OAK, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: Sully Locker & Market of Jasper County. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

Steaking claim in Sully for over 70 years, Sully Locker & Market is meating the needs of families and farmers across Iowa,” said Ranking Member Ernst. “From full-service meat butchering and packaging to storing and shipping, the Nikkels have carved their impact into their community.”

The original Sully Locker & Market opened in 1946 as a meat processing and storage facility to serve the farming community. In the spring of 2020, Rick and Cheryl Nikkel became the newest owners and expanded the business. Today, Sully Locker & Market processes over 850 cattle annually. It also offers local groceries as well as Cheryl’s homemade soups and dips. The Nikkels also opened the Sully Meat Market in Ankeny in April 2023, which sells locally raised meats and baked goods. Next year, Sully Locker & Market will celebrate its 79th anniversary.

Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
