Ernst Names Small Business of the Week, Tristate Curls

Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

RED OAK, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: Tristate Curls of Osceola County. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

“It’s clear Tristate Curls provides quality, specialized care for curly and wavy hair that is a cut above the rest,” said Ranking Member Ernst. “After training throughout the United States to become a licensed hair stylist, Megan brought her expertise and sense of style to Sibley and started her own hair salon. As she blows her clients away with her attention to detail, it’s no surprise her small business is a highlight of Osceola County.”

Tristate Curls was founded in 2018 by Megan Gerken as a specialty salon for curly and wavy-haired clients. Megan graduated from Stewart Cosmetology School and has trained in Los Angeles, New York City, and Dallas to become an expert in working with curly hair. Before moving to Sibley with her husband, Megan worked in salons in her home state of Minnesota. In addition to owning and operating Tristate Curls, Megan is an active member of the Sibley Chamber of Commerce and works on the family farm with her husband to raise cattle. This year, Tristate Curls will celebrate its 6th business anniversary.

Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
