Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.
RED OAK, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: Welter Storage Equipment of Jones County. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.
“What began as an idea proposed at the Welter family kitchen table has grown into a thriving company that serves the Monticello community and customers across the country,” said Ranking Member Ernst. “That hard-earned, values-driven success is at the core of what makes Iowa small businesses great, and I am proud to commend the entire Welter Storage Equipment team and Welter family on their achievements.”
Welter Storage Equipment was founded by Lloyd and Joyce Welter on their family farm during the 1980s farm crisis. Following two years of service in the U.S. Army, Lloyd saw a need for shelving, pallet racks, and storage equipment in Monticello and created the business. Today, Welter Storage Equipment sells new and reconditioned warehouse equipment and office furniture acquired through auctions, liquidations, bankruptcies, closeouts, and more. They also provide storage equipment and forklifts. The Welter Storage Equipment team operates in Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, and Monticello. Lloyd and Joyce’s sons Ron, Dave, Dean, and Bob are the current owners and have seen three generations of the Welter family work for the business. Welter Storage Equipment Company celebrated its 41st business anniversary in 2023.
Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with her Small Business of the Week award.
