Ernst Recognizes Iowa’s Own Brunow Contracting as “Small Business of the Day”

WASHINGTON—Nominated by U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), Brunow Contracting—a woman-owned small business in Council Bluffs, Iowa--is being named as the Small Business of the Day by the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Ernst recognized this Iowa small business in the Congressional Record of the U.S. Senate.

“It’s businesses like Brunow Contracting that serve as a great example of the hard work, innovation, and success of Iowa’s thriving small business community,” said Senator Ernst, a member of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. “Tamara Brunow is one of the only women in North America to own a construction company. She started Brunow Contracting as a single mother of three children in the middle of a recession, and has grown it into a multi-million dollar business. I’m so proud to recognize Ms. Brunow and the tremendous impact her small business has had on not only the Council Bluffs community, but our entire state.” 

Tamara Brunow launched Brunow Construction in 2008. Shortly after her launch, Brunow Contracting acquired its first contract of $1.3 million dollars to build a Presbyterian Church. Since then, it was certified by the Small Business Administration as an 8(a) and HUBZone business. Brunow Contracting has completed numerous contracts, ranging in value from $800 to nearly $5 million, and for a client list which includes the City of Omaha, the United States Forest Service, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Southwest Iowa Planning Council, and the United States Coast Guard.

Ms. Brunow is a recipient of the Midland Business Journal’s 40 under 40,  and has proved to other female entrepreneurs and small business owners across the country that it is possible to simultaneously build a businesses, be a great mother, volunteer as a mentor, and remain committed to your community.
