Ernst Recounts Trip to Southern Border, Calls on Biden to Address Humanitarian and Drug Crisis

Back from the Southern border, the Iowa senator detailed the atrocities being perpetrated by cartels daily.

WASHINGTON— With her trip down to the Southern border still fresh on her mind, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) is calling on the Biden administration to put an end to their catch-and-release policies that are encouraging migrants to come to the Southern border.

Ernst, alongside her Republican colleagues, went to McAllen, Texas, to speak directly with Border Patrol, local authorities, and residents who described the dangerous situation. In a press conference today, Ernst highlighted what she heard and saw firsthand at the Southern border.

Ernst recently introduced the Keep Our Communities Safe Act to close the catch-and-release loophole allowing illegal migrants back into the U.S. after being apprehended. Earlier this spring, she introduced the BUILD IT Act which would return unused Southern border barrier materials back to the states to continue building the Southern border wall.
