WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) rejected a radical proposal by Senate Democrats to block billions of dollars in critical military aid for Israel including guided bombs, munitions, and aircraft.
Ernst has worked tirelessly to hold President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris accountable to their “ironclad” commitment to Israel, especially while Americans are held hostage by Iran-backed Hamas.
“While Israel is being attacked on all fronts, it should not be under attack in the halls of Congress,” said Ernst. “After four years of the Biden White House, we must stand with our greatest ally in the Middle East. After all, Israel’s enemies are our enemies, and Iran and its proxies have American blood on their hands. Instead of blocking critical weapons as Israel fights for its own existence, we must provide them with the tools needed to demolish Iran-backed Hamas and send a clear message back to Tehran.”
Background:
In May 2024, Senator Ernst was in Israel when she received reports that the United States withheld an ammunition shipment to Israel and immediately demanded answers from President Biden to hold him accountable for his “ironclad” commitment to our greatest ally in the Middle East.
In August 2024, she led her colleagues in demanding the Biden-Harris administration end its appeasement of Iran, stop jeopardizing the lives of American servicemembers, and deliver the necessary weapons systems to Israel.
Ahead of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s address to Congress, Ernst led a dozen Senate Republicans in calling Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to action on behalf of our hostages while they snubbed Israel and waffled on their “ironclad” commitment.
Ernst led the entire Senate Republican conference in remembering the one year anniversary of the horrific October 7 attacks by condemning Iran-backed Hamas for its actions, supporting the forever survival of Israel, and calling for the safe release of American hostages.
