“I have seen failures in the vetting process before. I certainly don’t want to see those failures repeated.”
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, questioned the Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines on the threat to Americans posed by the Biden administration’s Gazan refugee plan and the president’s appeasement of Iran, which has cost American lives.
A recent poll found that over 70% of Gazans viewed Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel as the “correct” decision.

During the hearing, Ernst pointed out the true threat of Iran saying, “We as the United States have these sanctions, but we don’t enforce them. A good deal of [Iran’s] profits will go to support these proxies. Hamas has killed Americans. They killed Americans on October 7. They have held eight Americans, three we know are confirmed dead – they are still holding five. In my estimation, they are using the profits to kill Americans. They have done it already.”
Background:
Following reports that the Biden administration is planning to welcome Gazan refugees into the United States, Ernst led 34 of her colleagues in demanding the president stop his plan, citing concerns of potential terrorist ties, and instead focus his efforts on returning Americans held hostage by Hamas in Gaza.
Ernst has led the bipartisan charge in Congress to hold the Biden administration accountable and enforce sanctions against Iran to prevent them from fueling and funding terrorist proxy groups like Hamas.
