Ernst Statement on President Trump’s Announcement of the Death of ISIS Leader al-Baghdadi

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), the first female combat veteran to serve in the U.S. Senate and the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities, released the following statement on President Trump’s announcement of the death of ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi:

“United States Special Operations Forces are the best in the world—exceptionally professional and extremely capable operators. Under the direction of President Trump, these men and women successfully carried out the mission of eliminating the head of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. This is an important and much-needed step toward ensuring the enduring defeat of this violent and cruel terrorist organization. It’s also a stark reminder to other terrorist groups who threaten us: you will never be safe and you will be brought to justice. Today’s news is a reminder for all of us to be incredibly grateful to our US servicemembers for their ongoing work to protect the American people from terror threats around the globe.”
