Ernst Touts Successful Efforts to End Energy Dependence on Adversaries in Defense Bill

RED OAK, Iowa – Following the FY2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) becoming law, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a combat veteran and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, is touting her efforts to end American energy dependence on our foreign adversaries.
“Energy security is national security, which is why we should end our dependence on compromised supply chains. These measures will rebuild the critical minerals defense stockpile and ensure reliability and security of energy sources,” said Ernst. “An America that marshals its own critical resources is resilient against its adversaries.”
The following Ernst-led provisions to end American energy reliance on our adversaries were included in this year’s bill:
- Rebuilding the National Defense Stockpile (NDS) and forcing the Department of Defense (DoD) to procure critical minerals from the U.S. or our partners and allies, which were key parts of the senator’s HARD ROCK Act.
- Reviewing how the DoD is procuring energy overseas, with a focus on the Indo-Pacific region.
- Limiting the Pentagon’s procurement of electric vehicles with parts sourced by slave and child labor.
