WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities and a combat veteran, called on her fellow lawmakers to act quickly in passing the annual defense bill, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2020. Senator Ernst cited the NDAA’s bipartisan support and the need to provide our military men and women with the tools needed to keep our country safe, particularly with recent actions by Iran.
Ernst noted the importance of swift passage and explained the need for improved technology in our military to overmatch our adversaries and near-peer threats, like China and Russia, in areas such as artificial intelligence.

In addition to the NDAA, Senator Ernst commended U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert Wilkie for beginning the implementation of the VA MISSION Act, landmark, bipartisan legislation the Senator helped pass in 2018, that will help veterans get the care and services they need.
