Ernst Visits Majdal Shams, Witnesses Brutality of Iran-Backed Proxies

Hezbollah Rocket Attack Took the Lives of 12 Children

MAJDAL SHAMS, Israel – After a Hezbollah rocket attack on a soccer field took the lives of 12 children in Majdal Shams, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), co-chair of the Abraham Accords Caucus, released the following statement after she led the first Congressional delegation to the community today:

“Israel is under attack on all sides. The community of Majdal Shams already lives under the uncertainty of terror, and my heart broke as I heard the stories of mothers, fathers, and community leaders forced to mourn the lives of children taken too soon.

“Witnessing the impact of this brutality further shows that Iran-backed Hezbollah and Hamas’ terrorism truly show no bounds. To them, civilians are not off-limits, and they make no exceptions for targeting children or the soccer fields where they play.

“In the face of this loss, the future appears dim, but the fight for justice on behalf of these young, innocent lives is not over.

“Instead of allowing the Iranian regime to prosper and withholding weapons from our greatest ally in the Middle East, I’m calling on the Biden-Harris administration to deny the IRGC’s ability to support and arm terrorists and provide Israel the resources it needs to decimate these terrorists once and for all. America must not waiver in its support of Israel.”

Background:

On October 7, Ernst was in the Middle East and went into Israel just days after Iran-backed Hamas’ attacks to show her support for our ally.

Since then, she has kept up pressure to bring the hostages home, hold the Biden-Harris administration accountable to their “ironclad” commitment, and continued to stand with Israel.

In January, she returned to the Middle East and advocated for the release of the hostages in meetings with senior leadership and lead negotiators in Egypt, Israel, Qatar, and Bahrain.

On Monday, Ernst led a Congressional delegation into Israel that met with Prime Minister Netanyahu to reaffirm support for our ally in the Middle East.
