ICYMI: Ernst on the Border

Ernst: No one can visit our Southern border, hear directly from our border officials, see this historic crisis firsthand and possibly claim that our border is closed.

WASHINGTON – After joining a delegation of her Senate Republican colleagues to the Southern border, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) is sharing her perspective on the crisis and urging President Biden and his administration to take action on the issue.

Senator Ernst joined Larry Kudlow on Fox Business to discuss her findings from the trip, including the cartel activity and Biden administration’s failed border policies: “This is not just an issue that the poor folks in Arizona and Texas are facing. This is a nation-wide issue, this is a humanitarian crisis – something that could be prevented if only the administration would step up and do it.

The Washington Times reported on Senator Ernst’s conversation with a former Marine who now owns land near the border, who shared that he has seen more dead bodies along the Southern border than he did in Afghanistan: “Senator Joni Ernst, an Iowa Republican who served in Iraq in 2003 and 2004, met the man during a trip to the border late last week and recounted his story to The Washington Times. She said she likened the border to a “war zone” and then talked with the Marine who made the same comparison.

Ernst toured the border, met with immigrant agents, and spoke with people who live near the border about the problems they are seeing.”

KGAN covered the senator’s discussion with law enforcement, both at the border and in Iowa, on the drug flow from cartels into the United States, highlighting the following statement from Ernst at the delegation’s press conference: “The methamphetamine, the fentanyl – all that is running up I-35, into communities like Mason City and Des Moines in Iowa. Ninety-nine percent of that, my law enforcement officials say, is coming right out of Mexico.”
