NEW: White House Takes Action on Ernst’s Call to Ban Taxpayer Funding of Anarchy
The Iowa senator also has legislation that would restrict taxpayer money from going to lawless jurisdictions
RED OAK, Iowa – Following U.S. Senator Joni Ernst’s (R-IA)
urging, the president has
directed the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to begin the
process of reviewing federal funding to five lawless jurisdictions.
“Exploiting peaceful protests to promote lawlessness is wrong. Local leaders in these cities have failed their people by forbidding law enforcement and emergency responders from doing their jobs, resulting in the tragic loss of life. Iowans shouldn’t foot the bill for the destruction and reconstruction of these liberal cities. I’m glad the administration has listened to my call for action; this anarchy cannot continue,”
said Senator Ernst.
Background:
Ernst
led a letter to Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russ Vought to use his authority to prevent federal funding for anarchist jurisdictions and to report the amount of taxpayer dollars used to enable autonomous zones.
In June, Ernst put forward the
Ending Taxpayer Funding of Anarchy Act, which would restrict federal funding for “anarchist jurisdictions,” or jurisdictions that abdicate their constitutional duty to their citizens to uphold the rule of law and provide police, fire, or emergency medical services due to non-governmental actors. Ernst’s bill
continues to gain support from her colleagues.
