Senator Ernst Calls for Support of Kurdish Allies, Increased Pressure on Turkey

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), a combat veteran and chairman of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities, continued to call for support for America’s Kurdish partners and increased pressure on Turkey given recent actions in northern Syria. As someone who served in the Middle East, Senator Ernst voiced her support for working with strategic partners to continue the fight against ISIS.

Senator Ernst expressed support for the Trump Administration’s economic sanctions on Turkey, and encouraged Turkey’s President Erdogan to meet with Vice President Pence and Secretary of State Pompeo to find a path forward toward enduring peace and stability in the region.
