Ernst Week in Review

Bringing Iowans’ Voices to Washington

Following a month of traveling across Iowa on her 99 County Tour, hearing from Iowans in every corner of the state, Senator Ernst is continuing to bring Iowans’ voices to Washington and fight on their behalf. Throughout the last month, Senator Ernst heard directly from Iowans about the need to uphold the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), to lower the costs of prescription drugs, to address workforce challenges, and to pass the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

This week, Senator Ernst continued to amplify to her colleagues the issues that are top of mind for Iowans.

Iowans Want the USMCA Now

With one-in-five jobs in Iowa being tied directly to trade, and Mexico and Canada as our state’s top two trading partners, getting the USMCA trade deal done is a must-do for Iowa. Whether at one of her town hall meetings, or on a visit to a local dairy farm or manufacturing plant, while Senator Ernst has been crisscrossing the state, she’s heard consistently and across the board that Iowans want the USMCA now.

Getting Washington’s Hands out of Iowans’ Lives

Iowans have told Senator Ernst that we need to get rid of Obama’s egregious Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule, which gave the federal government authority to regulate 97 percent of Iowa’s land. Senator Ernst has consistently fought to scrap Obama’s burdensome rule and this week she applauded the Trump Administration for following through on its commitment to roll it back.

Earlier this year, Senator Ernst introduced her own legislation, the Define WOTUS Act, which would codify a reasonable definition of WOTUS into law, clearly defining what is, and is not, a federally regulated waterway.

Never Forget September 11, 2001

This past Wednesday marked the 18th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Senator Ernst led a group of her colleagues in an event on the Senate floor in memory of the victims, first responders, and innocent citizens who courageously put their lives on the line to save countless others. During her floor speech, Senator Ernst stressed her commitment to keeping our nation’s promise to support the first responders who continue to sacrifice their health from their work in the post-9/11 recovery efforts, and to ensuring our armed forces have the technology, support, and resources they need to defend our nation from threats at home and abroad.
