Ernst Meets with Judge Amy Coney Barrett, Calls Her an “Inspiration for Working Moms and Young Girls Across the Country”

WASHINGTON — Last week, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), one of the first female Republican senators to serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee, met with President Trump’s nominee to the United States Supreme Court. In case you missed it, a number of outlets covered their meeting.

KAAL-TV noted that Senator Ernst called Judge Barrett an “inspiration for working moms and young girls across the country.”

KWWL-TV highlighted that “Ernst is one of the first female Republicans to serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee” and that she is “committed to evaluating Barrett on her qualifications.”

Ahead of her meeting with Judge Barrett, Ernst and her fellow Republican women senators held a press conference to speak on the nomination. As KGLO wrote, Ernst spoke on the importance of this nomination for women across the country: “This is what a mom can do. I tell my daughter that all the time,’ Ernst said. ‘…A mom can be a combat veteran…A mom can serve in the United States Senate and, most certainly, a mom can be a Supreme Court justice.’”

The Washington Times also covered Ernst's remarks at the press conference, where she said “As a nominee for our nation’s highest court, Judge Barrett is an example to girls and young women in Iowa, and across America, that they truly can do it all.”
