Throughout her 99 County Tour and during this COVID-19 pandemic, Ernst has been hearing directly from health care professionals at CHCs, hospitals, and mental health centers throughout the state who have played a critical role in caring for Iowans, especially in the state’s rural communities.

“We in Iowa are blessed with a wonderful system of community health centers that help our families and individuals across the state of Iowa, especially in our rural areas,” said Senator Ernst. “On my 99 County Tour, I’ve seen firsthand the services these providers are offering for their community as our state continues to fight COVID-19. I’m grateful for all that our community health centers do to care for folks across Iowa, and I’m continuing to work at the federal level to support our health care providers during this pandemic.”

Background:
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Ernst has pushed to prioritize relief for Iowa’s hospitals, CHCs, and workers on the front lines of the pandemic. Ernst helped to successfully secure critical funding for Iowa’s health care community in the bipartisan COVID-19  relief  packages passed earlier this year.

Through the CARES Act, Ernst helped garner funding for Iowa’s health care providers, mental health system, and community health centers along with funding from the Department of Health and Human Services for Iowa’s rural health care providers.

Ernst has also worked to deliver relief to hospitals and CHCs through the Paycheck Protection Program and helped secure a fix to allow more of Iowa’s hospitals to benefit from the program. Additionally, the senator has pushed to expand access to telehealth services for patients and providers to ensure Iowans receive the care they need during the pandemic and beyond.
